Tow bar or Tow Dolly?

I am new to RVing. I have a big class a diesel pusher. I need to tow my car. What are the advantages to using a car dolly that holds the front wheels in the air like this:

vs a tow bar line this:

  • 1996 was a big change in the Suzuki and Trackers. Pre 96 required the installation of hubs.
  • my older tracker could not be towed if it had automatic hubs. don't know what year that changed.
    bumpy
  • The automatic, put the transfer case in neutral, the automatic in "Park".
Leave key in ignition, to unlock steering wheel. '02 means first click.
There are a few Suzuki showing up in your area for sale. They are really good toads. Have had several.
I am looking for replacement for one of mine. Needs to be in good shape and less miles then yours. Saw one on cars.com in southern CO.
  • Okay I'm gonna sound pretty dumb here but, that means put the stick that puts the car in drive, park etc into neutral and the thing that puts me into 4 wheel drive into neutral also right? It's an automatic
  • 140k miles. It's a total beater but we love it but will be selling it soon. But if your looking for a pretty car this isn't it

I wouldn't want that towbar myself. get one that stays on the rear of the motorhome and has levers to release it, not slip rings. I use a blue ox AventaII.

  • Keep the Tracker. It can be towed four down with either an automatic or manual.
Very simple, put transfer case in neutral, automatic in park manual in second gear and go.
How many miles on Tracker? Might be interested!
  • currently my plan is to tow a 2001 Chevy Tracker it's got four wheel drive. I don't know a whole lot about cars so tell me what else you want me to tell you and I'll give you the information
  • Four down using a tow bar is the easiest way to go. A tow dolly can be difficult to park after you drop the car, unless you have a hitch on the toad.
    Cost is nearly the same.
Let us know what toad you have in mind as many vehicles cannot be towed four down and some cannot be put on a dolly and must be carried on a trailer. Make, model, transmission and drive type?
  • Depends. First is your car even towable with all 4 wheels on the ground? is your car FWD, RWD, or AWD?

4-wheel down is the most preferred, but usually the most expensive due to requiring base plate, tow bar, supplemental brakes, lighting, where as a dolly (front two wheels of the car off the ground) doesn't require any of this. But a RWD car that isn't towable 4-wheels down, can't be towed on a dolly...only FWD cars can.

So you need to provide us with more info before anyone can give you good answers.
