RV Tow Check is way off target. Numerous people have towed 13,500 5th wheel trailers with 3/4 ton trucks powered by diesel engines.
What RV Tow Check ignores, which is pretty dumb, is the engine and gears provided. GM specifies a 25% higher towing capacity for its gas powered trucks with 4.10 gears over 3.73 gears and the difference is several thousand pounds. Same is true with Ford where the F-450 pickup gains in towing capacity in large part due to this model having 4.30 gears instead of 3.73 as with the F-350 pickup.
Why is that people put blind trust in a website run by unknown individuals with unknown backgrounds and knowledge. I put my trust in the engineers at Ram, Ford, and GM, as these people are professionals making calculations based on in-house data and testing and not off the top of their heads.
