UGH! Another pile of garbage sold as snake-oil help... Every manufacturer puts out their towing guide every year covering the configurations of their trucks. They are all now rated by the adopted SAE guide. After using this the land you in the ballpark, check out real numbers of the trucks actually sitting at the dealership with options you like. Yes, many will roll in saying they've been towing such and such for such years and they're X00 pounds over. I'm sure they have, we engineers use something called a safety factor/factor of safety/reduction factor/load factor to account for the variability in real world mechanicals and best we can for the "human element."
Now if you are pulling a 12000# boat with only 500-600# of tongue weight, then the Tow rating becomes important.
