tow capacity

I know you are all probably tired of answering these same type questions but the more I study this the more I am getting confused.

We are "playing" with the idea of upgrading to a 32ft, 3 slide TT.
Dealer says 8520 GVWR and 2350 dry weight.
We drive a 2005 350 Ford Turbo Diesel V8. The sticker info on the truck door says front GAWR 5600lb Rear GAWR 7000lb and GVWR 11,400lb.
We recently added the bullet proof kit to the engine.

Everyone is telling us this TT wouldn't be a problem but I am not feeling as confident from everything I am reading. Can I get some help to get through my confusion with some experienced advise.

Thank you!

  • Truck can probably tow your intended trailer OK. The problem is the trucks motor. Before you spend your hard earned dollars do some serious research time on the IH/Ford 6.0L diesel.
  • Not only do I think you should have no concerns with that At all, but I think you could go bigger if you wanted.

Heck, there are people pulling that trailer with half tons....
  • It's understandable considering the off the wall answers and theories you've just gotten here.
Assuming your trailer Weight based on your post and that your truck is in good running order, your truck will pull it easily and safely. Don't think twice about it. Besides you can't get much bigger than a F350.
  • Sorry to sound so naive about this, I have just read so many posts about matching tow vehicle with trailer that I was getting paranoid.
    I appreciate all your comments.
  • You won't even know it's back there :B

2005 F350 DUALLY is more then capable of towing that travel trailer.
    You've already addressed the real concern''''that 6.0

Folks tow that size trailer with big gas engines all the time and OP has a diesel! He would have to load it VERY heavy in the bed to be over limit. GCRW is important but even that will be hard to exceed without some really heavy loading.
  • Welcome to the forum !!!

First, decide if you believe in the OEM ratings system, numbers, recommendations, etc...or not

If not, then do whatever and note that you assume the liabilities

If yes, then learn how that ratings system works, which includes 'recommendations'...that so many think does NOT matter. They do not understand that if you do not follow the OEM's recommendations...that OEM may no cover any warranty or liability

Those TV ratings you list are for the maximum conditions (weight) to the pavement when your TV is loaded. Including the trailer PIN/Tongue weight

The MTRW (max tow weight rating) of your TV by its OEM is derived from a 'curb' TV (stripper model) with only one option (tow option), one 150 lb driver and fluid tanks filled to whatever (some half full, others 1/4 full...to full) and one 150 lb driver. NOTHING else in/on the TV

Also, know that many confuse 'can' vs 'rated for'

Find your TV's GCWR (fairly new rating and many do not understand, nor believe in it) and do the simple math:

GCWR >= TV weight + Trailer weight + stuff

'Stuff' as in all the people, pets, cargo in/on the TV, WD Hitch system, options (factory and after market).

Best to load up your TV ready to tow and weigh it. That will then provide the actual weight for the above formula that will tell you what the actual MTWR is

    Good luck !
  • Be more specific on the truck and trailer weights. Your typing skills are a bit confusing..

    Truck model.
    Trailer model GVW TW etc
    Payload capacity of truck.

( Probably best going to scales so you know exactly what your dealing with.

The lowest tow weight for your truck from the guides is 11700.

I dont see an issue so far as I am sure you have enough payload.

    But who knows.

First # is tow rate 4wd, second is AWD and third is GCWR
