My last 2 diesels were equipped with a manual tranny - best thing for mountain towing.
Now in my new 3500 it has the Aisin tranny with a 342 rear end. I will be towing a tow hauler TT of about 11,000 lbs. In the mountains I see the need for Tow haul but how about the in the flats? Seems like MPG would suffer in Tow haul.
In your configuration in TowHaul the truck will remain in 4th up to 55 MPH and will not shift to 6th until 65MPH. We tow a 16K 5th wheel and tow at 60-62 MPH, So I do not need to lock out 6th. In 5th gear at 60 MPH it is turning 1750 RPM's which a good RPM for towing with the newer DEF 6.7's.
So speed you tow will effect which gear you are in with T/H on.
As noted above the EB works better in T/H.
So! Use it when towing.
