Hello,I wanted to get everyone's advice. I have a 19 foot Stellar Eclipse Toy Hauler. I hooked it up to my Armada and needed to go 10 miles so I hooked it up as is, but I think I may need to go up on the hitch and/or put more tension on the chains. Don't count on a dealer to do it right. They usually do not take the time necessary or have techs that know how to properly set it up for each individual rig. They usually can install it ok, but forget about the 2nd step which is adjusting it properly.Take a look at this thread for some help on doing it yourself. By doing it yourself, you not only are sure to get it right but you learn a lot about your hitch in the process.:) It is not hard and just takes a bit of time and care.You have a small trailer but many toy haulers have very high tongue weights until the "toys" are put in the back. By your description, you probably did not have enough weight transferred back to the front of your truck. That thread I linked to will help you get your hitch set up correctly. Good luck.:)Barney

Do this; measure the height from the ground to the lip of your FRONT fender BEFORE hitching. Then, after hitching everything up, measure the SAME spot. It should be close to the same measurement. An inch higher is OK, but NEVER lower. Moving up, or down a link at a time on the WD bars chains will set adjust it. Good luck, and be safe.

You have two goals when adjusting your WDH. First, restore weight taken off the front axle. When you apply downward force behind the rear axle, upward force is increased on the front axle. I believe your vehicle recommend restoring all weight lost. Many people find using an estimate of relative weight by body height at the front fender good enough for WHDH adjustment. You can adjust the number of links under tension as well as the angle ball. If you cannot get the front to unhitched height, you need stronger bars.

The other goal is to get the trailer level to slightly nose down after WD applied. On flat ground, measure the frame height at the front of trailer and rear.

I recommend reading this thread and adjusting yourself over taking it to a dealer. Your TW may vary if you plan to fill the back with toys vs. empty so you may need to change frequently.

I didn't mean to be picking on anyone's setup. Those 1st pics just looked dangerous. Everyone has to live with what they set up...which is why I trust myself to do it, not some dealer. I think if you are going to tow, it is best to understand your systems, configuration, etc... what a wonderful era we live in, where information is so easily exchanged!

When all is right, both TT and TV should be level. If TV sags in back, or TT is nose down or up, it ain't right. And some of those combinations are downright dangersome.

This is my setup. I am a tad heavy on the tongue, if I remember, about 600 on the scales. I am pretty level, and no air in the air bags in this picture (ruptured due to low air during the winter). My bars are tight, and my hitch is tilted back. My bars have a slight curve to them.
