Tow Strap for camper

The other night my wife broke down with her mini van and I tried pulling her with this strap using my F250 diesel , we made it 1/2 mile or so and the strap broke. I got the strap for being towed off the beach with my camper, but now Im thinking maybe a chain is needed. Anyone have any suggestions , rope, chain or extra heavy tow strap? Thank You, Lou

  • Heavy duty nylon straps are the way to go but make sure you don't store them in direct sunlight for a long period of time. They do degrade over time and should be replaced every 10 years or so.
  • Forget the chain idea, they are killers if they break. Use a 20/30' snatch strap with at least 10K or above weight limit. As kohldad said, just make sure it is protected against sharp edges....
  • Don't use a chain or a strap with hooks. If they break, the hooks tend to go where they want to go, not uncommon through windows.

A 2" strap with at least a 10,000# rating will do the job. Just need to make sure the strap is protected from any sharp edges. Something like this 20,000 strap.

Also, remember, a strap isn't made for snatching, but gentle pulling.
