1/2 ton would work fine for that trailer, but if an upgrade is in the future you may want to look at a 3/4
This answer is what most of all understand to be what happens.
The tow is much more fun to have the correct truck not almost enough.

Few weekend warrior trips a year and 350 days of city commuting and parking garages, get the half ton. Opposite end of the use spectrum, get a diesel. Somewhere in the middle, get what works best for your situation including what you may currently own.
Leaving diesels out of the discussion, the 2 drawbacks to HD gassers compared to 1500s are ride quality if that's important. Everyone's idea of a nice ride is different but a 1500 will be softer every day of the week. The other is slightly worse gas mileage comparing apples to apples.
The upsides to a 2500 or 3500 gasser is what chevman said, enjoying the towing vs getting by. Less wear and tear loaded or empty. Example, you'll get about double the brake life out of a 2500 used in the same manner as a 1500. And they are physically the same size. You can put a ccsb 2500 in the same parking spot as a ccsb 1500.
