Tow vehicle tire pressure question

2500 series dodge truck, 10 ply rated tires Michelin tires
pulling a tow behind trailer 5,700#

I know the max tire pressure on my Michelin tires is 80 psi, but boy o boy do they ride rough at that pressure.

currently they are all at 60 psi,

question: is that adequate or should I bump them up some when pulling the trailer?

trailer tires are 50 psi max and I have them at that level

note: I have a tow behind trailer, not a big boy, 5th wheel with all that weight setting on the rear axle.

thanks for any input,

  • The sticker on the door of my 2012 Ram 2500 with 10-ply E Michelin tires calls for 70 psi in rear and 60 psi in front when cold. I have a TPMS and see the temps rise about 10 psi when the tires heat up.

I would with what the sticker states for your truck.
  • I called my tire dealer, but he is a jobber, not an official Michelin dealer.
he said 70 psi all around and I changed them.

good thing I checked the spare, it was loose on the mount, must be tighten before any long trips.

    thanks for your reply's.

You could get by just fine with 60 in the truck tires with the assumed weight you are carrying.

60psi should more than enough, depending on the capacity at 80psi. My "E" tires are rated at 3,415# ea. even with my 5er I run between 65 to 70psi loaded. I am at about 5,500# on that axle loaded.
Best is to weigh loaded the go from the inflation charts.

  • I tow with 80 psi in the rear and 65 psi in the front. 55 psi for all tires when not towing. Check the sticker on the door edge.
