Tow Vehicle Tire Question?

Tire question:
I need new tires for my 2005 dodge diesel quad cab 2x4 pickup.

Tire size: 2.65/70-17” load range E, 10 ply rating

I currently have Michelin tires and they drive and ride good, but are near the end of the tread wear and we plan to take a trip soon, pulling out tow behind trailer.

My local independent tire dealer’s primary brand is Cooper HT.
However, he recommends Firestones TransForce HT
Obviously, the Cooper’s and Firestone’s are less expensive.

Any of you have experience with Cooper’s or Firestones in this tire size?

Monday, I need to go down and order a set of tires.
  • I just put on a set of Firestones on my truck after 3 sets of Michleins. I just pull up to my local shop and say do it, nor ordering, looking for an installer or what ever. In fact a week and half ago I pulled up to dealer, no appt., with truck and 5er and had them put on a new set on each. No fuss or mess, hour and a half I was gone. Can't beat that for service.

sounds good, but I live in backwoods western KY, Murray, KY area.

here, you have to order the tires and they are delivered by horseback, crossing KY lake is really a challenge for them.

we just lost our local Michelin dealer, lack of business or poor service, so I have to get my tires from a independent dealer that handles many brands of tires.

  • I put Cooper Discoverer ATP's on mine a year or so ago and they are wearing well. While they were being installed I was visiting with a hotshotter who was having Falkens installed.

Next go-around I may try the Falkens based on that conversation. Nothing against the Coopers, but he related his experience with both and how they wore and pulled on lease roads and drilling locations.
  • I've run Firestone Transforce on my Chevy dually, the size is 215/75R16. They were fine tires; no complaints really. I never got more than about 30,000 miles from a set. The last time I put tires on the truck I got Michelins. I currently have about 50,000 miles on them with a lot of tread left.
  • Can't go wrong with Michelins. If they've served you well, why change?
  • go to tire rack dot com
    put in your size
in the left hand column , make your choices for load range
    highway , off road , etc .
at the top you can choose to sort by price
    some brands have rebates
    those will show up
i received my continental tires in 2 days
    i got a $ 100 rebate .
if nothing else you will be able to do your research for tread depth ,
overall diameter , width , and so forth .
For me it is load range E only
    for a 5% premium i get 12.34 % additional wear .
