Depends on the extend of the "bulletproofing". With a less-than-legal EGR delete, yes. If you do a BulletProof diesel oil cooler upgrade, than the parts (with new EGR cooler) runs nearly $2000. Then you add in a turbo rebuild, and head studs and gaskets and you're already over 3-grand. And then you still have potential injector problems, sensors problems, fuel delivery problems, possible HPOP problems.... It say $8k is more like it to truly "bulletproof" that motor. But the good news is... you can buy them for that much less than similar trucks without that motor!
At that point...well, $8000 will get you most of the way to a Cummins swap!
