tow vehicle update...2004 6.0 diesel??

To make the long story short, the tow vehicle I bought last week, I had it for 3 days, starting to do some tlc to it, and noticed a nice size crack in the frame. I immediately took it back to the dealer 4 hours away and luckily they returned it giving me all money back.
My newest update.. May have found a new tow vehicle.
My wife uncles who she works for is willing to sell us his truck. Its a 2004 Ford 250 4 door 4x4 Diesel 6.0. 105,000 miles and has been garage kept since it bought it (which was almost new). This truck is drop dead gorgeous and he is willing to sell it to us cheap! This would help us financially huge as I DONT have the money to go buy a nice brand new 350 diesel or gas etc etc..
So it does have the hated 6.0 diesel.... My question is are these motors really that bad?
He has kept is all stock. He said he had one small motor issue that costed him 1,000 at the dealer and that was it...
Can I get some input on this motor..?
For the right price I told my wife we cant go wrong even with this 6.0 diesel motor. Input?
Thanks!
  • not sure what the small issue was but wasn't injectors.
  • What was the small motor issue?

If the truck has utilized all Motorcraft Coolant (Gold coolant), Oil and fuel filters your at a good start. If I were in the market for one of these trucks I would look at the 05-07 year models. I had an 05 with ~170k miles for 7 years and it was an excellent truck.

I would go to Fordtruckenthusiasts.com for some real 6.0 owners input.
  • My son has a 2005 F250 6.0L 4x4. Uses it to tow his 7000# TT. Has 150K now. Had a problem with some injectors, but that is it. It runs well now.
  • I know it is the 'dreaded 6.0' but I have known a few guys who have had very little issues with them (they all have them stock & not tuned).

I think if you are getting for a good price I would do it, but just understand that you may need to 'bullet proof' it in the future.
