Currently out camping and on the way up I was getting past left and right by rv's. If you have a proper truck and change your trailer tires to LTs. Can trailers be safely towed in the 70 mph range. Thanks

- Seeing as this thread is about "excessive" speed towing we should switch to a more appropriate argument against speed. This accident is about driver error. It is stretch to make the claim speed was the cause of this accident. Of course there was speed involved but the CAUSE of the accident was driver error.
If someone falls asleep at the wheel and drives off a cliff at the bottom of a hill, was speed a contributing factor or the fact the driver was ASLEEP. Witness said the vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed. - Oops.. Double post

In that post with the same picture I wroteHere's another 3/4 ton wreck pulling a trailer well within its ratings. Lost control going down Whitebird hill and a semi smacked him good. My son responded to this one for fire department extraction.Unfortunately the driver of the 3/4 ton died later at the hospital.
3/4 or 1 ton does "not" fix inexperience.
What's the problem. Inexperience includes trying to pass a semi when he should not have and Inexperience is in my opinion what caused the wreck. I know I sure would not have done that. The fact remains that he was going faster than he should have been infact in this case even faster might have helped.
But the bottom line is he wrecked and an experienced person would not have done that. Another fact is anyone who had ever passed a semi pulling a trailer knows you have excelerate More than you would if you are not towing making speed a contributor to the wreck.
The fact he was in a 3/4 ton didn't save his bacon. The fact he tried to pass when he shouldn't have proves his Inexperience and he must have thought he could go "fast enough" to make it or he would not have done it.
Nothing I wrote in either post is contradictive.He was both inexperienced and going to fast trying to pass.

You posted the same picture almost a year ago. The problem is you NEVER mentioned speed as the cause of the accident back then. NOT ONE WORD ABOUT SPEED!!! Load, bla, bla bla was the cause; at least that was what the thread was about.
Back then you were railing about over load.
One would think you would at least change the picture to get your story straight! But no, same picture but now you rail about speed!
What next? The good money is on if an ST tire thread comes up are you going to cut and paste the same old picture and rail about how ST tires caused the accident!

PS, by the way, not one word about speed in your report........just what I though!- Maybe we just do things different out west. There were a lot of people on scene that heard and saw what happened.
. Lots of locals were packing stuff up and down the hill also, as well as the people that stopped to help that were just driving down the road, It take a team of everyone working together.
I don't see that anywhere in the incident report you posted.
It isn't but it's a fact. If I don't have to do something tomorrow, I'll go take a picture of the road prior to where it happened. It's a two lane road going past Hoots Cafe to a sumit where you have to merge back into one lane.
The incident report also did not mention Whitebird QRU or Syrynga hospital extraction (Grangeville fire department extraction)
Got some real Matlocks around here!- The ISP accident report must be done by now. The case may even be in the trial stage.

So just where is the truck drivers statement?
The truck driver could've been going really slow like 35 or so.. Yes I know he was on a "downgrade" but having just topped a climb, he may well have been going that slow. We have some areas like that in my neck of the woods.jaycocreek wrote:

If you read back in my post you will see I said that coming up the hill that both came up just prior to the accident, there was a passing lane aka two lanes going the same direction. The scene is just out of the two lanes where the travel trailer was trying to pass an excellent ting semi truck,in other words, shortly before the accident the travel trailer was in a two lane road then tried to pass in which he would have to excellerate with everything that pickup had to make it.
He was in a two lane in the beginning then ran out of two lanes to a single lane on a steep downgrade.I don't see that anywhere in the incident report you posted. You can disagree all you want, there is absolutely no way that what the travel trailer guy was trying to do without speeding.
