What I have yet to wrap my mind around is the rating to tow at 3800 lbs. Say you use 10% as the tongue weight number. When slapping the ability to tow on the car at 3800 lbs, wouldn't that automatically make the max tongue weight at least 380 lbs?
Or are these numbers really independent of themselves? I just looked over a GMC site quickly, and anywhere I found max tongue rate ratings I also found that the max towing capacity was no more than 10 times the tongue rate (ie the 10%).
The only reasoning I can think of is that base level chargers for that year have max towing capacity of 2000 lbs. At 10%, thats your 200 lbs max tongue weight.
So the question then becomes, does this particular hitch (assuming its a oem aftermarket add-on) work for the ratings of the OP's charger, that is at 3800 lbs? Or is it only for use on the lower level chargers with the capacity of 2000 lbs?
