You're an automotive engineer that knows what goes into tow ratings? No offense, but you've got me scared now. You say you're asking because of what you might be missing. You stated your hitch is rated for 200#, but several of us have told you that you are going to be over that limit by at least double. As an engineer, what does that mean to you? As an automotive enthusiast who does most of my own work, with nearly 30 of camping and towing experience, it tells me you better be VERY careful.
As far as monitoring, do you have an Android? This ODBII reader with Bluetooth and the Torque Pro app in the Google Play store. It's pretty much the best, most cost effective combination.
