You're obviously only towing local with this setup, I hope, so why not spend the $ you're going to inevitably dump into the car to make it a tow rig and get a beater truck to pull the camper?
Not dumping on phil here, but he isn't only towing it local, his plans are on visiting the upper peninsula from downriver michigan. To be honest I'm not 100% sure if belleville is downriver or not.
Thanks for the pic phil, that does help clarify what it looks like. My concerns would be more based around the pin that holds the vertical part of the receiver piece to the hitch on the vehicle. Surely there is some sideload pressures and whatnot, but it doesn't seem the best design to have all of the tongue weight resting on the pin. Given that most wdh are 100 lbs by themselves, gives me even less of a good feeling.
Is there anyway to have a regular hitch put on that the receiver is under the bumper? Or is the bumper too low to accept something like that? I mean it would look goofy, but would probably be much safer. Or for me at least it would make me feel better about the setup.
Have you thought about towing mirrors as well? I don't know what they make for your vehicle, but they are definitely helpful.
