There seems to be some disconnect here that you are not understanding. I have mentioned in a previous post, as have several other folks, that the manufacturers tow rating for the vehicle is the standard to go by. An example. My 2004 F-250 has a tow rating of 14,200 lbs. from Ford. I am considering installing a B&W turnover gooseneck hitch on the truck. The hitch that fits my Ford was designed specifically for it, matching existing frame holes for mounting, etc. Someone will correct me shortly if I am wrong, but I believe the hitch has a 20 or 25,000 lb. rating. My trucks tow rating is still what ford advertised it to be. It doesn't magically acquire a 20 to 25,000 lb. rating just by installing a hitch with said rating.
