Yes, like with any other truck manufacturer out there those numbers will change. If the original poster wants to stay with-in his ratings then use the gcvwr. Weigh the truck and subtract it from the gcvwr. There are other numbers to consider too. I was just answering the OPers question. FWIW, I towed a rig for years with the same truck as the op that was 20,000# not counting the truck weight. It did/does great.
