Stay home or get off the road ASAP.
I also grew up in snow country. In slippery conditions, there is little you can do. Sometimes, when it is icy, just the grade of the road will cause you to slide.
Have had my truck start doing donuts on the road with no help from braking or excellerating.
I would NEVER tow in snow! I watched the weather forcasts and went when the weather was clear for my entire route.
This year I left three days early and avoided a 70 car pile up on I90 in PA.
WATCH THE WEATHER is the safest way to drive.
I have an app called "Weather on Wheels". It will give you the forcast all along your route - You can check your route 5 days in advance.
