Towing Long TTs

We are in the market of purchasing a Timber Ridge trailer. We love everything this trailer has to offer. My question is we are town between a 27' 8" and a 29'9". Both are long, but is there any differnce in towing a longer trailer? We've looked at shorter trailers, but aren't as happy with the quality and everyone knows, these trailers can be huge investment. Any thoughts? Thanks

  • For the two you list you won't be able to tell any difference. I have towed many different lengths of trailers and longer ones are actually easier to tow and definitely easier to back up.
  • 27' 8" and a 29'9".

By today's TT offerings, a 30 foot TT is not all that long. Many are made that are 34 feet or even more. In many ways the longer the easier it is to tow and back. You may find some old campgrounds that a 30 foot TT might be a little tight.

Just take a look before pulling in to make sure you can get out. If you cannot just back out the same way you pulled in and get your passenger to stop traffic. No worries.

We have it easier here in Ontario... have you ever seen the steep grade to get in and out of a lot of gas stations in most of the US between here and Florida, yikes! I would be terrified of bottoming out the trailer on most of those entrances / exits.

  • Generally, longer is easier (you won't notice the difference in the two lengths you listed)

Longer tends to have less sway and is easier to back-up... at least in my experience.
  • No difference in towing and if you can back a 28 footer you can back a 30 footer. Most of us do not travel more distance than a tank full of fuel will get us on a regular basis when towing the trailer. So plan ahead. Fill up with fuel before hooking up and it will save you the headaches of getting in and out of tight fuel stops whenever possible.
  • Absolutely no difference in towing or backing between a 27' 8" and a 29'9" trailer.
Get the one that fits your needs best.
