I had an 03' and 07' 1500 Chevy Silverados. Sure they can both pull up to 8500lbs, but every year I was replacing brakes and cutting rotors. Trust me, the 1st time you go down a big hill and you hit your brakes and they go all the way down the floor, you going to wish you had the 2500HD. I upgraded to a 2011 2500HD and will never go back. Sure I miss the 2 mpg I used to get more, but knowing that I can stop on a dime it is well worth it to me..
DITTO...
I started out with a 28' trailer and a 2007 Silverado.
I believed the salesman who sold me my trailer, that my 1500 would do the job... (Shame on me)
Towed ok on flats. Bucked like a bronco on every bump, because the trailer was too heavy for the truck.

Talk about underpowered...
First trip to the Smokey Mts., I went thru Chattanooga.
North side of Chattanooga I started up the first small mountain
at 65MPH, foot on the floor, I was going 25 MPH well before I got
to the top. I came back from that trip and bought a F-250 PSD.
The 3/4 ton flattened out the mountains, and the bucking (Porpoising)vanished.
Same small mountain today is climbed at 65MPH start to finish at about half throttle.
Mountains are a pleasure if you have the right tow vehicle.
The 1500 was definitely no fun when everyone trying to pass you gives you the finger...
You're right on the "porpoising", but... the new GMC/Chevy 1/2 ton trucks have more power and a significantly better power to weight ratio than the 3/4 ton gassers.
