Exactly. That's why many medium duty trucks have lower power ratings using the same engine as their light duty counterparts. The Cummins B series engine is a prime example. I thought it was pretty impressive that the little 3 liter Isuzu attained a commercial duty rating moving up to 18000 pounds. Perhaps the VW engine would be as durable- if it were detuned from its current rating.
