I'll answer this, Mitch, since neither the OP nor anyone else has the knowledge. Being in Germany means the MPG is higher as they use Imperial gallons which are almost 20% larger than a US gallon. So, if a car like an M3 does 20mpg in the US, it will do almost 25mpg in Germany, UK etc.
More Litre/100ks, but you are correct about the Imperial UK Gallon versus the US
