Something to check before you start towing is the fill level of all fluids the in the truck.
Rear axle
Transmission
Transfer case if 4 x 4 and front axle too.
All engine fluids including power steering.
Towing creates heat above and beyond normal driving and if you are low on oil, that is the first step in creating a bad situation.
Then start thinking when was the last time the gear boxes, rear axle, transfer case and the transmission oils where changed? If it has not been in a while, start soon and get on a new schedule.
