140,000 towing miles on a 270 hp V6 Toyota Highlander, for work and play. But trailers only about 3500 lbs or less. My last TT was 2700 lbs and only 7' wide by 100" high; the HL did really fine with it at 60 mph or so in most conditions. However, heading up a long grade (5% or so) at higher altitude and into a good headwind, I had to slow down to about 38 mph and shift to 2nd gear.
Considering where you live, you'll have some grades and mountain passes to get where you're going so a V8 would be more enjoyable. But if you don't mind sometimes taking it kind of slow, a V6 can do the job. Make sure you have tow package or else add a transmission cooler.
