We towed a 25' FR Surveyor around 5k loaded. The TT towed very well due to low frame height with torsion axles. Not all TT pull the same.
H3 with 3.7 I-5 towed very well, happiest around 62. Four speed trans was the least desirable feature, since the 4-3 downshift was a big jump. 4.56 factory gears were a big help, offset by the large tires.
Pathfinder 4.0 very similar with 5 speed auto. Shifts less jarring.
Tacoma 4.0 with six speed manual was most relaxing, because the manual made it easy to run with cruise on and no unwanted gear changes.
All of those rigs went cross country and through Colorado.
