Just bought a 08 Hemi 6 speed manual and wondered if anyone else is towing with this combo. Towing around 10k.
Rare truck and not too likely to find others with that combo. But it’s a great bulletproof combo save for the clutch and the clutch is smaller than the diesel models. It’s a known weak point behind the diesels.
What gears?
It isn’t going to tow any “more” than the auto truck, but it will be nicer to tow with than the slush box. - Bionic_ManExplorerI didn't even think that was an option. Sounds like a rare build.
- ScottGNomadFrom my experience, towing with anything near or at it's max rating isn't much fun. Hope it works out for you.
- dessa1930Explorer5.7.
3.73. 2500 3/4 ton.
Not many hemis built with manuels - theoldwizard1Explorer IIIn the past, when manual transmission were more common, most manufacturers down rated the towing capacity. Unless the transmission had a "granny"/"creeper" first gear, it was very easy (for an in experienced driver) to burn up a clutch.
I'll bet the same truck with an automatic has a higher payload/tow capacity ! - parker_roweExplorer

According to trailer life the tow rating for 3.73 manual is 88-8900lbs depending on wether it was a reg cab or quad cab.
11-12000lbs with 4.10 gears.
Tow Ratings 2008 - Grit_dogNavigatorG56 has a nice low first gear.
3.73s, dang, that trans combo would work much nicer with 4.10 or even a bit deeper.
It’s still an upgrade from the 545rfe mush box. - LanceRKeysExplorerI have towed a small fifth wheel (maybe 8500lb?) with a dodge 2500, 360v-8, 5 speed 3.55 rear. It handled the weight just fine, but I really wished I had 4.10 or 4.30 rear end. The truck was a regular cab long bed , 2wd, with the rv package suspension. Other than the lack of power, it was perfect. I could turn that fifth wheel around on a dime!
This was before I met the weight police, I didn’t know about payload or anything like that. I liked the camper, bought the camper cheap, slapped a gooseneck adapter that I bought used on there and hit the road! I’d just put it in fourth and hold it on the floor till time to slow down.
If I saw the truck you are talking about come up for sale in my area for a reasonable price, I may jump on it. Maybe not for a tow vehicle, but just something to drive around. - dessa1930Exploreri love driving this truck the trans shifts really smooth and it does have the granny gear in it great for starting out on hills
fuel mileage on road is slightly over 20 around 65 mph
had automatic diesel before and just hated the slippage in the torque converter
I know I could have spent more money had had it upgraded
I thinking its 373 but may be 410 I turn about 2100 rpm at 65 mph
