i love driving this truck the trans shifts really smooth and it does have the granny gear in it great for starting out on hills
fuel mileage on road is slightly over 20 around 65 mph
had automatic diesel before and just hated the slippage in the torque converter
I know I could have spent more money had had it upgraded
I thinking its 373 but may be 410 I turn about 2100 rpm at 65 mph
Keep it in good shape, a numbers correct 6 spd manual is probably a rare bird and could be quite collectable one day. - Grit_dogNavigator20 mpg and future classic?

Hemi what? What’s the truck’s payload? Rear end is?
NO he just bought the engine and trans!!! - Dave_H_MExplorer IIhad automatic diesel before and just hated the slippage in the torque converter
I don't understand this concept. Maybe autos slipped a lot back in the 70's before lock up converters.
Was your diesel of modern day technology? - kellemExplorerThe manual can't help but beat the 545RFE.
Your still likely exceeding towing capacity but at least you have the payload. - dessa1930Explorerthe slippage was in a 03 and did not like having to rev up to get a heavy load moving is what I was talking about
also the torque converter is not always locked in the earlier 48re so yes it would slip till it locked up
yes I am close to maxing out the weight but I do gain some by it being a 2wd
the g 56 it a very good shifting and smothe transmission in this truck
if it handles the power of a cummins I know it can handle a hemi - CharlesinGAExplorerGo to the dealer parts department and give them the VIN number and ask them to print you off a build sheet. This will give you the rear axle ratio but will also give you all the options and option codes.
Easier than that however is to simply open your glove box and look at the sticker in it. It will give the VIN, the trans and code, the axle ratio and ring gear size and code and primary and secondary paint codes.
Did it have a factory tow package? The build sheet will tell you.
How to identify factory vs dealer installed Mopar receiver.
Charles - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIMeAgain will post the Chrysler site using your Vin# to get your window sticker???
- Grit_dogNavigatorOr jack up a rear wheel, mark the driveshaft, spin wheel 1 revolution. If the ds spins less than 4x it's a 3.73, more than 4, it's a 4.10. Those are the likely ratios unless some aftermarket gears were installed.
- Me_AgainExplorer IIICopy this to a new browser session and add the vin behind the "=" sign. https://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=
