My truck is a 99 F550, Pickup bed. 7.3 with 4.88 gears with 218K on the clock. Paid $7K 4 years ago.
That's one good-looking truck! Is the bed a custom job? Maybe fiberglass? I don't see a filler panel at the front, or a 4 inch gap from cab to bed and now I'm curious.
Was a cab and chassis when delivered to a dealer in Ca. They shortened the frame and installed a 50 Gallon fuel tank. Used a stock Ford Dually bed.
I thought about having the frame shortened on Truckasaurus, but in the end I had a one-piece fiberglass hauler bed installed that looks like a pickup bed, but has the 60" cab to axle clearance for the chassis cab frame.
Modification was done prior to my purchase. Mixed feelings on the Mod.
If I had bought as a cab and chassis I would probably gone the route you did and just added a hauler bed.
Is your truck a 4x4? Probably the only thing I wish I had.
Mine is a 4x2. Completely useless in marginal traction situations unless it has the 3,000 pound trailer pin weight over the axle. If I could choose a modification, I'd change the front end to the coil spring setup they used starting in 2005. Right now, I have the turning radius of an aircraft carrier.
