Yes, choose wisely. Which is why this thread shouldn't be considered "hijacked", because the 7.3L is one of several older diesels to consider... not just the various iterations of the 5.9L.
The early 99's had the catalytic converter. In 2000, Ford was able to do away with the catalytic converter altogether, and still meet California emissions.
My 2000 F-550 automatic does not have a catalytic converter. The presence, or lack thereof, of a catalytic converter was not up to the upfitter. It was a matter between Ford and Johnny Law. Vehicles shipped thru to California, complete or incomplete, had to conform to California emissions, so as the third page (4th photo) of the quote above indicates, the CA emissions RPO 422 came from Ford.
Had the chassis of your truck been a 2000 model year, it would not have come with any catalytic converter installed.
