First time posting. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I recently purchased my first travel trailer (first trailer of any kind). While towing, is it advisable to have the propane tank open in order to run the refrigerator? The reason I'm asking is to store our food while driving to the destination. Any advice for this newbie would greatly be appreciated.

The manufacturer intended for the LPG to operate the refrigerator while traveling so feel free.

It is OK to tow with the Propane on. The reason it is "suggested" to turn the propane off is that if you have a wreck and the tank's gas line is broken there will less chance of a fire. Some bridges and tunnels REQUIRE the propane to be turned off. Some will not allow ANY propane. I think (?) the George Washington Bridge in NYC only allows RV with propane on the upper (?) level.The Refrigerator should keep cool for a number of hours without the propane turned on.

Towing on propane is how you keep the fridge cold while towing, lots of folks do it.Please note there are some times you need to stop and turn it off though. These include when traveling through tunnels (if marked) and when gassing up the tow vehicle.

Hi, Welcome! You are sure to get many replies. This topic pops up frequently. I'll tell you that I just got back from a 14 day 2008 mile extravaganza from Ohio, to FL to visit the land of the Mouse and Fort Wilderness, and back via Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. The fridge stayed on auto the whole time. Saved us one evening when we tripped the breaker on the post at a campground while we were away. Fridge switched to the battery and LP. No issues.The units are designed to run on gas while underway. I don't think I could have kept every thing cold during the heat of the day on several legs of our travels, especially the last day, which was an 11 hour dash for home, any other way.So. I use it as it's designed to run.You may run into places that require it to be off. I have not yet encountered one of these places. I know they are out there though.(No, I didn't turn it off at gas stations either. Sorry! I did use outside pumps or RV lanes pretty much the whole trip.)Welcome again! Happy camping.
