Toyo AT2 or Terra Grappler G2 or Cooper AT3 or ???

After agonizing far too much, I've decided to keep my stock 17" wheels and go with 285-75-17's. Now to decide between:
Toyo Open Country AT2 Extreme
Cooper Discoverer AT3
Nitto Terra Grapper G2
Other?

Local places I've checked are similar enough on price that I'm ok with either of these, so I'm looking for recommendations/experience with any of them.

Guess I'm like most - I want an aggressive look, but 95% of the trucks life is on the highway - literally highway (60 mile daily round trip for work) so I don't want them loud - respectable all-weather traction, etc.

Big plus is strength for towing/hauling. Currently pull 8000 pound travel trailer, but plan to trade to 11000 pound 5th wheel with about 2000 pin weight - so I really don't want any squishy wiggly sidewalls. Towing/hauling is typical weekend getaway stuff - probably 10 times per year averaging 400 miles on the road each trip.

Can you help a guy out?
  • I've been searching the same size, and tire brands.
I like the 285-75-17 also since it is 1" taller than the 70, and comes in a 126 load rating in the Nitto Dura or Terra.
BTW I think Toyo owns Nitto, and they are both as good as Cooper.
  • I just put Cooper Discoverer ATPs on my 2013 F350 I use for my landscape business. 285-70-17 E rated. They're similar to the AT3s. Pep Boys carries the AT3s and Discount Tire carries the ATPs around here.

I have been very pleased with the ATPs. One of the reason I bought them was a friend who has a Ram 2500 has them on his truck with 25,000 miles now. The tread still looks great. 55,000 mile warranty, too.

Ride and performance so far has been exceptional. Toyo and Nitto are great tires but I have no experience with them. But I'd get the Coopers again if they keep doing as good as I expect them to.
  • I'm on my second set of the Nitto's. Changed out the first set a little prematurely at 44,000 miles due to an up coming 8500 mile trip. Absolutely no problems or gripes. Not sure if mine are the G2's, they are rated at 3750#.
  • I have the Nitto's on my dually and over two years they have done great. No noise at all and in 12k miles I see no wear. I pull a 15k lb 5th wheel with them.
  • Can't really help, but am in the same boat looking at the same or similar tires.

They all have a similar treadwear warranty,

I've heard good things about both the Toyo AT2 and Cooper AT3,
The Nitto seems very similar to these two, but less common.

Right now I'd just go for the lowest cost, but am curious as to what others have to say.
