Toyota Tundra 5.7 Liter

I have a Toyota Tundra 5.7 SST and I am pulling a 29' Mallard M29 2017...6100 lbs dry weight. Am I good with hauling the trailer to South Dakota later this summer? Any input is helpful.
Thanks
  • Thanks for the input. I figured there would no problem, but sometimes better to make sure beforehand. Matt, was there an issue with towing 3000 lbs? That seems like an awfully light load to have trans issues with.
  • For a longer trip, I expect you to have around 7500 pounds of loaded weight with 900-1000 pounds of TW. Payload could be a problem. If you have 4.30 gears, power will not be.
  • I used my 5.7 Tundra to tow my household stuff in a 16-foot cargo trailer from Texas to Arizona. Total additional weight probably 3000 pounds. There were times I spent 45 minutes with the trans in a low gear, and the engine spinning like crazy.

I like my truck, and will keep it, but I should have held out for the bigger engine.

  • My truck has 9800 lb TWR and 16000 GCWR rating. It appears that we will be lighter than that. I am not towing water in it and we have a second vehicle to offset the weight. The truck came with a factory installed towing package.
  • It all has to do with what the tow rating is for you pick-up and how much your trailer weighs when it is loaded. And don't forget, loaded includes the weight of the water, propane and all supplies. Without looking at the tow ratings, my guess would be that you're pushing the edge of the pickups rating. But again, that's only a guess
