Not a Tundra hater here either. Used to have one, but, as mentioned above, they run out of payload, long before they get close to their advertised tow capacity.
Great truck, as long as you pay attention to all (GVWR, payload, hitch, and tow) ratings.
Where people get into trouble is, they see the tow capacity ads on television, and don't realize they can't load a half ton of people and cargo in the truck, and still pull that advertized weight.
Yup this is it...used to have one...loved it. Great truck, just not enough payload for my family, gear and TT. Strong motor with plenty of power, excellent transmission, great truck. Stay within your ratings and it should serve you well.
I had a 08 Tundra with the 4.7L and it is a fine unit. My current TT had me right on the all the max figures loaded as lightly as possible. Weight both axle and gross were verified on a CAT scale.
I can say as a retired CDL over the road driver that the unit was very capable of controlling the rig. The 4.7L was anemic but capable when pulling out west with the prevailing fall breeze. I towed my sig TT from FL to WV and then to the RGV of TX. Average fuel mileage 7 MPG. The Tundra is a well engineered and designed vehicle. No regrets and would consider another if not towing as heavy.
