Advertised payload and towing numbers are what the truck was rated to carry or pull, as it left the factory. The weight of anything added added to the vehicle, by dealers (undercoating, bed liners, floor mats, etc) or the end users, reduces the amount of available payload.
Payload is eaten up by the weight of aftermarket accessories, passengers, pets, cargo (truck camper would fall in this category), towing equipment, and tongue weight from a trailer.
If the camper is advertised at 1500 lbs, that does not include tie down equipment, water, dishes, bedding, groceries, or camping gear.
Load up your truck, as if you are going camping, and weigh it. Subtract that weight from the GVWR. That will show how much room you have to carry the camper and tongue weight from your trailer.
