We are new to towing a travel trailer. I want to buy a tundra because I have loved all my Toyota cars but my husband doesn't think it will tow a jayco lite (7800lbs) 31 ft. Can anyone shed some light on this dilemma. Would appreciate any expertise.
They wanted to match a pickup to a trailer. I said that the big three had more engine options than the Tundra, which I hope they buy as I pay taxes in Texas. The engine options have really grown. If you are too light in the engine you will regret it. People here commute in pickups. The pickup builders make small V-8s which get good fuel mileage. However as you venture out in your RV life you take longer trips to more exotic locations and your small engine rears its little head. My advice was to get the upgrade/bigger engine. I have a friend with a new Yukon Denali with a 6.2 V-8 who pulls a monster tag-along toy hauler to Taylor Res. Colorado over Monarch Pass with 2 ATVs internal. He couldn't be happier. He upgraded from an F-150 5.4 Triton crew cab. Ford is doing something right because they have led the nation in pickup sales for years, over 6 to 1 to Tundra in 2012. Get the power if you pull or get the compromise. Her husband is right, drive your camry at home and get the biggest puller for your RV.
