I will say that after owning several 1/2 tons and 2, 3/4 tons that my latest GMC has a really nice ride despite being an HD truck. In fact and call me crazy but I like the ride quality better on this new truck verse my 01 Chevy 1500. I don't agree about gas 3/4 ton trucks not being able to do much better then the 1/2 ton because of the extra 1900lbs. In my experience the 6.0 will out perform the 5.3 any day. I have owned both and have pulled the same trailers with both. My 6.0 despite being heavier out pulled the 5.3 on the hills easily. The problem that I see is simply an issue with payload on 1/2 ton trucks. They claim to pull 10,000 lbs but what about payload?. That's always going to be an issue despite manufactures putting in small Diesel engines or boosted engines in 1/2 tons. I realize Ford offers an HD package but most others do not. But most 1/2 tons run short on payload period despite the marketing hype. Most likely culprits are huge wheel/ tire combos and a******load of options that really add up. But the normal consumer only sees the commercial of the advertised HP and TQ numbers along with this 1/2 ton hauling major wieght. It's like my BIL who bought the new 2011 Ford F150... 4x4 max tow or something such as that, crew cab all options and those huge tires. Only to find out within the year, the payload came up way to short.., hence the next day an F250 gas job found its home in the driveway. So you buy what ya need is my thought, not bashing any truck, or person, because even my truck runs out of payload much faster then a 1 ton. I just don't know how manufactures can get by with some of the commercials their advertising.
