Trailer bearings maintenance

Needing to have my 30u bearings packed. Packed them three years ago and haven't towed the trailer more than 1,000 miles. Wife at the last minute wants to visit daughter who lives 700 miles north and with a bump arm I can't do it myself. Does any one know of a decent place to have them serviced in 50 miles radius of dayton, Ohio? Thanks for any and all feed back.

I would think any auto repair shop would be able to repack the bearings.
The actual packing of the bearings with grease is the same on just about all bearings. But the methods of getting the proper adjustment will vary.

Nah, they are all just bearings. They all are adjusted with a minimum amount of clearance.
OP, if work was done correctly you are good to go.
  • Thank you for the replies. We did head out and 2400 miles later no problems. I did check the temperature with a heat gun at stops and no significant temperatures. And $50 per axle is the going price. With the big trip over, I might just do them myself since I have an extra set of grease seals.
  • I think you'll be fine without also. I don't know any shops around there. For what it's worth the shop by my house wanted $50 per wheel.

  • Unless you have signs of a big time grease leak your bearings should be fine. I agree with others about "go and enjoy yourself". I repack my bearings about every 30,000 towing miles.

I would head out without repacking. With only a thousand miles on a repack I would think you would be more than fine. I do mine every three years or so and travel probable 10k on them before repacking. MHO

X2. Dave has it right. Should just pack up and go. Safe travels
