UPDATE: The correct answer to the question is:
IT IS PLUG AND PLAY AGAIN!
GM has gone back to putting a plug in the electrical panel on the firewall just above your left toe, as they did with the 1999-2007 series trucks.
Of course the plug is a different shape from the GMT800, and will need a different cable, but it is once again a plug and play affair.
