In truth. He was not misinformed. There are indeed systems that operate as he said. Just not usually on RVs. Many trailers that do not need a battery for any other reason. Do have a small battery dedicated to the E brake on the trailer.
Horse trailers, flat bed trailers, gooseneck trailers, box utility trailers etc.

Looks like THIS however the battery inside is a small 5Ahr gel battery.
Typically not found on RVs since the RVs will have a bigger "house" battery but on any other trailer like flat bed or cargo you will find this box. Typically gets it's charge from the tow vehicle but since they often sit for long periods of time the gel battery goes flat killing the battery and then they need replaced.
All of our farm trailers have a system like that.
