Yes you can increase a trucks GCVWR. I did on my X 3.73 gears have a 17,000lb GCVWR, and 4.30 gears have a 20,000lb GCVWR. the only difference is the gears!
I know there used to be a manuf. that had a higher GVWR with lower gears. it was only on a pickup. I wish I could remember which one it was!
