On the farm if it's too heavy to put on the front of the tractor we have a big green bar with shafts on the ends and several holes in the middle of it that we can put between the bottom two arms of the 3 point hitch mounted on the back of most tractors.
We screw a ball into one of the holes. Then you can then use the 3 point to lift the trailer. Even though it's on the back of the tractor it is still a lot easier to maneuver and see where your going this way.
We have had the bar for years and years. Because it's green I always figured it was from some piece of Oliver equipment. It would be possible to build one though if you wanted too.
