We have a 9 and 2 year old. We wanted the same thing at first. We went back in forth with what was more important to us. The big living space for all of us to hang when in the camper and the boys beds/bedroom.
After looking for two years and walking through more floor plans than I can count. We decided the big living room with comfortable seating for all and the TV in a good viewing angle. Was what was most important. We chose the Viewfinder signature 32rlss. It has a full size sofa and two rockers. A huge open floor in the middle of them as there are opposing slides there.
The sofa pulls out to a king bed and set for the boys to sleep in minutes and cleans up just as quickly in the morning. I put the TV on aount that I can pivot around to them.
Just over two years in and just over 60 days camped and we couldn't be more happy with our decision.
We still hit the RV show each year and the only camper we have seen that we think might cover our needs as well is a fifth wheel from Grand Designs (Solitude 377MBS), but right now in our life we need the pick up bed for toys.
Good luck on your decision and no matter what you choose, you will be camping with the kids and that's a win no matter how you do it!
