Which Mercon are you using? Ford changed their recommendation to Mercon V a few years back.
When backing up a steep or hard push, many folks will put their transfer case into 4LO to give better control and not make the transmission complain. Downside is the steering limits in 4WD.
Some guys are working on an override switch to permit 2LO (4LO, but leave front hubs unlocked) for situations just like this.
Hope you found what you needed on the other forum. I tried to PM you, but you have it turned off.
I am using Mercon V. Wish I could try the 4wd trick but the turn while backing in the drive is very tight. I need all the steering I can get to make it.
Sorry about having PM's off. Didn't even know it. They are on now. I don't have the exact answer yet but the answers from this thread and some at powerstroke at least tell me some possibilities of what's going on. I feel like I can at least talk to a transmission tech where he understands me now.
I keep reading about a vent on the transmission. Both times I have taken the truck in for this to two different dealers, I specifically asked if there was some kind of venting system. I didn't know at the time but was just guessing. Both times I was told there was no vent. Both guys were the service reps and not the mechanics.
There is a transmission shop in the next town that has a great reputation. I'll be taking mine there this time and hopefully I'll get some resolution this time.
