Transmission Overheating

I have a 1996 F250 PSD, 223,000 miles on it, and I tow a 9000lb fifth wheel. Several years ago I added a torque converter lock up switch to use when on steep downgrades and the largest transmission cooler I could find. I've never had a problem with it, but coming home this year, the transmission temp began climbing when I flipped the switch on while descending a hill. When it approached 200 degrees, I turned the switch off for fear of damaging the transmission. Is there a problem, or potential problem here? Thanks.
