If you're on I90 in western MT, there are multitudes of Natiknal forest campgrounds not far off the freeway. Great option for overnight stops.
Personal favorite, but Rock creek about an hour east of Missoula is great. Several campgrounds on th river, 15-45min off the highway and excellent fly fishing if you're into that.
