Some good advice here since I’ve last looked.
I do not plan to buy an extended warranty. I figured I’d be fixing most things myself unless it’s something major. In the long term I’d be fixing even major things myself. Sometimes it’s more hassle to involve others.
We have already been doing quite a bit of shopping, but now doesn’t make sense for us to buy. Neither of us have any PTO left after the baby was born so no sense in buying until late this year or early next. Weight/length and floor plan are huge factors. I’d like to avoid upgrading trucks for quite sometime, however if it becomes a nuisance I will. I figure as my daughter gets older and we may have another, we will soon run out of payload.
Why lock yourself into a new RV?
Plenty of low cost used ones out there, not all of them need extensive work. Plenty of decent shape RVs to be had and much of the loss in value has been born by the first owners..
Our first RV cost $1800 and needed a lot of work, but keep in mind when I bought it, it was 25+ years old!
Our current RV was 30+ yrs old when I bought it and cost $700, but had to spend nearly $3000 in repairs and upgrades due to severe water damage..
Should be able to find a 10 yr old RV for under $10K that doesn't need a lot of fixing..
Our DD was only 2 yrs old when we first started camping, before that we were doing the hotel thing..
She is now 19 and STILL wants to go camping with us (yeah imagine a 19yr old that doesn't mind being around their parents! :B )
