Travel trailer style w large rear window

Hello all,
Am new to this forum and come to this knowledgeable group of people with a question on a particular travel trailer style.

My husband and I are approaching age 40 and have been long time owners of his grandfather's classic 1978 Carriage 28' trailer. It's served us well, with two little boys, and well cared for as hubby is a shop teacher. However, we're planning a change to something newer and (ahem) lighter to pull.

The style we like is the travel trailer with the large rear facing window. What year did that style begin becoming popular? Financially we'd have to go with an early to mid 2000's model.

Also are there particular brands/makes that more commonly have this style?

Many thanks,
Tricia

  • We recently moved from our HTT to a Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604 and towing with an F-150 CC with factory tow and 5.4. The living area is at the rear and has the large rear window and plenty of windows around the sofa with air mattress, and dinette. Ours is a 2013 model, but I believe they made this model in earlier years. The downside I see to having a unit with the large rear window is that most of those - unless you get over the 30' - 32' size - would have only one bed and you'd be making up a sofa and/or dinette every evening.

It would help to know what you'll be towing with. Our 2604 has a dry weight of somewhere around 5500# or so - can't recall the exact number, but the GVWR is 6629#. Try to add that info to your next post with any specs re towing/weight and you should get more complete ideas. Good luck....we also love the large rear window. You might check into the 2604 and see how far back it goes and if that fits your budget, but you would have to make up the sofa bed nightly. Good luck.
  • We also love the large rear window as it works really well for back in sites in state parks, and various on water sites. We have a 31' Rvision Trail-Bay Lite (Pic in Profile). We have a 2005 model.
