Travel Trailer Tire Choice

last fall we had a blowout on our way up to Lake George. We had the original tires on our 2014 Outback 250rs. Which I thought were good tires..at least as far as OEM tires go.

the blowout occured on the side that gets a lot of sun in our driveway so I suspect that had something to do with it. I always check tire pressure and keep at 65psi. The blowout caused a good amount of damage so we are looking to replace the other 3 OEM tires before another one occurs.

On the highway we had to take what we could get from a local tire shop which was a Duraturn ST 225/75 r15 10ply load range E.

Now I'm going to replace the others tires, should I buy 3 more of these? I can't seem to find much about them on the net. or replace all four with Maxxis ST's and keep the duraturn for the spare?
  • I would go with the new Carlisle HD .....or the Provider....or the made in USA Goodyear Endurance tires.
Unlike the Maxxis they carry a L and M speed rating and all sizes have the nylon cap under the tread. Maxxis says a Q speed rating but requires reduction in weight.
With over 30 complaints I sure wouldn't say their the best ST tire on the market "now".

Duraturn ST tires ?? Your money on that.....but I would say it would make a ok spare tire if you mount quality tires on the trailer.
  • Lots of opinions on tires!! I would not put E rated 80 psi tires on a trailer with GVWR of 7,500. I would replace with one of the newer nylon capped D rated 65 psi tires, that have been getting excellent reviews. These are cooler running, and speed rated to 81 mph. These would be my choice, what I am currently running, Provider ST 225x75R 15D, or Carlisle HD ST 225x75R 15.
