Travel Trailer

Considering moving from a truck camper to a travel trailer to accommodate a growing family. We camp year-round. We are narrowing in on Keystone and/or Jayco models based on floor plan (bunkhouse) as well as fit / finish.

Any advice? Our biggest concern is insulation and getting a true 4-season rig.

Open to any and all comments. Thank you in advance.
  • I'm not too keen on Forest River (Berkshire Hathaway) which is a solid company, but they have 48 product lines (and usually 8 floorplans within each line) Too big and too many pokers in the fire for my liking. I'd say Northwoods MFG (Nash, Arctic Fox), OutdoorRV or Lance are going to be your 3 biggest and best options. I don't think Jayco cuts it when it comes to their supposed "Polar Package" I have the Arctic Fox 22G but it's heavy and kinda clunky. I'm thinking about a Lance for the lightweight and true 4 Seasons Package. Don't know if I'll pull the trigger or not.

UGH. Keystone is on my list...

    What about Forrest River?

  • Check out the Northwood products--they are well known for their quality and that they are a 4 seasons camper. Lars

  • Take a look at the Lance 2185. Can sleep up to 7 adults (probably more if kids want to triple up on the dinette queen bed) They make a True 4 Season Package, aluminum frame and lightweight. Plus Lance is known for their quality of construction and materials.

It's a great year round camper, very well built (overbuilt frame/suspension), and works well with kids.

From what I can see so far. Extremely impressed with Outdoor RV,..

4 season, all aluminum frame and bunkhouse are key for us.

  • Just a quick comment about the bunkhouse. We have 2 daughters, now aged 10 and 7. We purchased a bunkhouse TT that had the quad bunks in the back, master in front with living, dining and bath in between. It had a superslide in the living, which was great, but if the weather was bad, we were all crammed in the living room on the sofa and some at the dinette.

If the girls wanted or needed some quiet time away from the family, they had to get in their bed. There was no place for them to get away and do crafts, paint, write, color, etc. There was about 18" between the bunks and so 18" of floor space, about 5 ft long.

We started looking at different floorplans and ended up trading for a front bunk fifth wheel. It is fabulous. There is still a limited amount of room, but they do have 2 bunks on the left, one bunk straight ahead with a couch underneath that makes a full size bed. There is at least a 5 X 5' floor for them to use for their activities. It keeps me from having to watch Disney movies in the living room on those days/nights when the outside weather is not conducive to outdoor activities.
  • Also take a look at outdoor rv for quality 4 season builds they have several different Bh models.
